This article explains the meaning and the purpose of life in relation to minor and major activities of life and, with an emphasis on the meaning of life, takes a short look at the lack of meaningfulness in the West, explaining its meaningful past, causes of abandoning meaningfulness, and the impact of lack of meaning there. The article goes on to suggest four viewpoints for solving this lack of meaningfulness and explains the Qur'an's viewpoint in this respect, regarding its present status as noteworthy in the lives of the Muslim. From this perspective, the entire being – including humans – guide toward God, draw humans toward Him, and convince them to submit to Him just as all the particles of being do. This submission becomes manifested in worship – which has various evidences and stages – and then prevails all man's life, whereupon the spirit of servitude reaches its highest peak in light of ontological belief in after-life. In conclusion, the article deals with the Qur'an's viewpoint concerning the appearance of meaningfulness in life and stresses the belief that zeroing in on the mundane life will lead man down to meanness which in turn will get him into savagery and frustration.

Affinity of the Qur'an's Positive and Normative Propositions in the Realm of Economy

For a long time the scientific community has been trying to render knowledge free from values so that the knowledge freed from judgments and personal presuppositions would achieve popularity and faster expansion.
In economy, likewise, this separation has for long prevailed in the form of positive and normative economy, either as a science or school. The separation has caused many value convictions to be disfavored in modern formats and the two areas move apart from each other and to be deprived of constructive interaction.
This article deals with the two above-mentioned areas, namely positive and normative propositions. Positive proposition means any statement fit to be approved, disapproved, rejected, and proved in view to external realities. In other word, positive propositions talk about "is's and is nots" and express external realities. In contrast, normative propositions deal with "musts and must nots" and the values. In respect to normative propositions of Islam, i.e., Islamic ordinances, Muslim thinkers have believed in their affinity to the positive propositions, which have been dealt with under the heading of the "expedience" and "innate corruption" of ordinances in legal and theological discourses.
This research intends to explore into and extract external realities where the Qur'an has explicitly talked about them in cause-effect relations or about the "is's" in the realm of economic issues, whether in relation to philosophy of ordinances or independently. These propositions have been divided into four categories as follows: those suggesting the impact of economic factors in other individual and social fields; those suggesting the impact of factors effecting economic issues; those suggesting economic behaviors; and those suggesting Divine traditions and laws in general, which govern the economic issues as well.

Method of making Scientific Impressions from the Qur'an

The discourses related to the Qur'an and experimental sciences date back to a thousand years ago, which have at times been called derivation of sciences from the Qur'an, scientific interpretation of the Qur'an, or scientific impression from the Qur'an and have drawn the attention of Muslim and even non-Muslim interpreters and scholars in the vicissitudes of the history of exegesis.
This discourse is in one aspect related to exegesis and in another to the scientific miracle of the Qur'an, and yet in another aspect to experimental sciences. Thus, it is regarded as among the interdisciplinary and fundamental discourses for other interdisciplinary discourses such as "the Qur'an and political sciences", "the Qur'an and economy", "the Qur'an and social sciences", "the Qur'an and cosmology", etc.
In the passing of history, this method has found many proponents and opponents and at times has gone to extremes. In this article the moderate method, i.e. the employment of sciences in understanding the Qur'an, and the new methods, namely, scientific theorizations on the basis of scientific verses of the Qur'an in line with the canalization of humanities is defended and the other methods such as derivation of all the experimental sciences from the Qur'an or imposing scientific theories on it is critically reviewed.

In recent years "human rights in the Qur'an" has in various ways been a subject of interest in the articles of the Qur'an researchers. The present article, however, can with a historical approach provide the readers with new perspectives concerning this issue.
First, it helps clarify the socio-historical dimensions of the early years of prophetic mission (bi‘tha) and draws the researchers' attention to the Qur'an as a historical source.
Second, it would show that the early call unto Islam has been based on right or duty and presents a clear criterion to the readers in this respect. It also views the spiritual issues as among human rights.

A Sociological Look at the Jewish Community in the Qur'an

Accurate cognition of the Jewish community, particularly its major symbol, "Zionism", is of utmost necessity in the present circumstances due to the hazards it has posed toward Islam and the Muslims. On the other hand, its various cultural, social and racial complexities have made its fundamental cognition possible only through revealed verses of the Qur'an. Studies show that the historical periods of Jewish community, particularly the era of Moses (A.S.) and the Pharaoh, are viewed as among the main discourses brought up in the Holy Qur'an. In this article, over 370 verses from the Holy Qur'an are examined and with reference to the three dignified tafsīrs of Al-Mīzān, Nimūna, and Majma‘ al-Bayān, fifteen exclusive cultural, social, and ethnical characteristics or indexes are extracted and presented in a sociological perspective, which can specify Muslims' strategy in their encounter with the Jewish community at the present era.

An Introduction to the Miraculous and Aesthetic Dimensions of the Qur'an's Rhythmic Order

One of the miraculous and aesthetic aspects of the Holy Qur'an is the language of the Qur'an and its various dimensions. Since the Exalted Allah has enshrouded the unseen and Qur'anic truths in "articulate speech" (bayān) and presented them all molded in language (lisān) to both the mystic and the commoner. It is upon the experts to research profoundly and insightfully in order to remove the barriers created between the Qur'an and the human beings and to prepare the ground for the embodiment of the fact: "This is an explanation for mankind", for the people. "Orderly Rhythm", as a miraculous feature of the Qur'an, has been among the issues that has directed people toward and drawn their attention to the astonishing orderliness of the Qur'an, beautifully displayed the profound and highly accurate relation between the meanings and the purpose of its verses and chapters, and made its words and speech so fluent and eloquent.
"Orderly Rhythm" is the specific rhythm created by the way the Qur'anic letters and words have been arranged together and heard when listening to the Qur'an. It is sometimes interpreted as the music of the verses and regarded by the Qur'anic scholars as among the verbal aesthetic dimensions of the Qur'an.
Paying attention to overall climate of the chapters and groups of verses, the way the letters are arranged in the verses, priority and posteriority of words, length of the verses, and their intervals are among the ways of recognizing the orderly rhythm of the Qur'an.
In this essay, the writer aims at examining the concept of orderly rhythm as one of the verbal beauties of the Qur'an and the relation of the Qur'anic words to the concept of the verses and chapters, as well as stressing the necessity of employing this artistic feature in instruction and memorization of the Qur'an.

This paper, entitled "Science of Difficult Words of the Qur'an", begins with a discourse on the status of this science among other Qur'anic sciences. Then, it gives a definition of this science from among the definitions of the Qur'an researchers and goes on to delve into the history of the science of "Qarīb al-Qur'an" (Difficult Words of the Qur'an) up to the time of the companions of the Holy Prophet (S.A.W.) and points out the endeavors made by such erudite scholars as Abān b. Thaqlab, Abū ‘Ubayda Mu‘ammar b. Muthannā Taymī, Abū Zakariyā Yaḥyā b. Ziyād Farrā’, Abū Bakr Sajistānī, and Rāqib Isfahānī. Another discourse which has been dealt with in this paper is the introduction of the systematized works of the above scholars in the field of "Qarīb al-Qur'an", their style, and the features of their works. In conclusion, the book by Abū al-Qāsim Ḥusayn b. Muḥammad Rāqib Isfahānī, "Al-Mufradāt fī Alfāẓ al-Qur'ān", which is a turning point in the development of the science of "Qarīb al-Qur'an", is touched upon.
