Abstract

The present article deals with the way the Qur'an confronted the cultures and traditions of the revelation era. According to the writer, the Qur'an has confronted the culture of the revelation era in four ways: 1. culture selection, 2. culture confirmation and establishment, 3. deculturation, and 4. substitution. Giving various examples, the writer explains each of the four procedures separately. Concerning deculturation, he discusses issues such as decisiveness in denying the negative elements, practical measures in deculturation, gradual procedures, and non-assimilation to the aliens.
