This article incorporates the Persian translation of a lecture by Dr. Muhammad Ayyub, the researcher and professor of Temple University of Lebanon, delivered in the Center for Studies in Islam and Christianity, Belmond University of Tripoli (Lebanon). Pointing out the intellectual interactions between Islam and Christianity, Dr. Ayyub states that Islam appeared in a spiritual and Christian climate, and regards the message of Islam as advocating monotheism, unity of mankind, and multiplicity of civilizations and languages comparing the message of Christianity, which was a message of dogmatism and opposition to Judaism. He cites the verses of the Qur’an bearing witness to this viewpoint. He then reviews the general outlook of Islam and the Qur’an on other religions. Furthermore, he considers the distinctive relation between Muslims and the followers of other religions, particularly people of the Scripture, as a relation of peaceful coexistence based on certain foundations. Other topics reviewed in this lecture include Islam and faith from the viewpoint of the Qur’an, distortion of religions, and the philosophy of tribute (jazyeh).
