This article deals with the issue of cancellation in theological and Qur’anic discussions. Some of the topics reviewed here are as follows: The historical background of the issue; the Shi’ite theologians’ outlooks about cancellation; transmitted and rational reasons for cancellation; backgrounds for the cancellation of actions from the viewpoint of the Qur’an; analysis of the cancellation theory; the reality of faith and infidelity; and the criteria for evaluating actions. In the end, the writer has concluded that cancellation as a general rule is not the case, rather it holds only in cases of infidelity.
