Rational and Jurisprudential Trend in Tafsīr Min Waḥy al-Qur'ān

Abstract

One of the significant discourses in tafsīr studies is recognizing the status of intellect in comprehension of and inference from religious texts, especially the Holy Qur’ān. The importance and selection of ‘Allāma Faḍl Allāh’s tafsīr from among Shī‘a interpretations is because it is a cultural turning point in Qur’ānic studies among contemporary Shī’a interpretations in terms of rationalism, contemporaneity, and analytical criticism of the ancient ideas, and for its presenting a new work in this area. In this article, after a brief explanation of the personality of ‘Allāma Faḍl Allāh, it is attempted to elucidate the rational interpretation and its status in Tafsīr Min Waḥy al-Qur’ān. In continuing, some examples of rational explorations are given and it is stated how intellect is utilized in understanding Divine Words.
