Al-Shahīdayn (known as Shahīd al-Awwal and Shahīd al-Thānī) are among the jurists who have throughout their works discussed on a number of the Qur'anic sciences. Some of these sciences are as follows: The science of the inimitability of the Qur'an in such aspects as orderliness, eloquence, rhetorical excellence, and methodology; The science of abrogation such as: abrogation of ordinance, abrogation of ordinance and recitation, and abrogation of recitation; The science of the generic and specific and the science of interpretation. In their interpretation of the revealed verses, al-Shahīdayn use interpretation of Qur'an by Qur'an, Qur'an by traditions, and Qur'an by reason.
