Family Violence from the Viewpoint of the Qur'an

Abstract

In this article, family violence as one of the family crises is discussed and examined. After reporting on family violence in Iran, the writer goes on to define violence and its history, and to explain family violence in a nuclear family, violentists, victims, as well as different types of violence such as physical, psychological, mental, and financial.
Jealousy, inadvisable beliefs, economic difficulties, illness, acquiring bad habits, mistrust, arrogance and selfishness, love of worldly gains, lustfulness, and fatigue are introduced as among the main factors of violence in view of the revealed verses.
In managing anger, parents are to treat one another benevolently, get to know the spirit of the family members, support the violence victims, confront the violent person, and create love and affection among the family members.
Change of the physical position, silence, listening to violent talks, paying attention to the outcomes of violence, and performing minor ablution (wuḍū) are known to be ways of controlling one's anger. On the other hand, governments can take measures toward controlling anger by passing certain laws and regulations.
