After a brief look at the verses of Divine Attributes mentioned in traditions, the present article proceeds to delineate formalism in relation to the verses of Divine Attributes, the origin and formation of such thinking, its vicissitudes over different historical periods, and its negative consequences and impacts on the Muslims' ideological culture.
Mention is also made of the authorities and the theological and religious sects that have made attempts in promoting formalism and attributing seemingly human attributes to God. Furthermore, like-minded formalists which have made necessary attempts in different historical contexts to modify the viewpoints of their other counterparts are also touched upon.
