Abstract

Genuine and accurate appreciation of the Makkī and Madanī āyas and sūras is regarded as the most important evidence required in the interpretation and explanation of the Divine and Heavenly Revelation of the Qur'an. Given this necessity, the interpreters and the Qur'an scholars are, in numerous cases, deprived of this provision! Nevertheless, the insightful and keen-sighted Qur'an scholars have not given up trying to search for this essential provision, have engaged in the task and seek to upgrade the issue to a better and a more accurate level, and made praiseworthy attempts accordingly.
This article examines and analyzes the viewpoints of Sayyid Quṭb, one of the most eminent Qur'an interpreters, on recognition of the Makkī and Madanī āyas and sūras and the necessity and significance of this recognition and intends to touch upon the curiosities and careful assessments of this distinguished figure in this field.
