The Principles Governing the Interpersonal Verbal Communication from the Viewpoint of the Qur'an

Communication, as one of the newest branches of social sciences, has for a long time, especially after the World War II, drawn the attention of scientists in various humanities fields. Communication has first been studied as "transmission of information", and then as "persuasion" and in modern impressions as "personal expression", "mutual efficacy and social solidarity", and "the main tool for social and political transformation". Human communication, especially verbal communication, from among different branches of communication, has been highly significant in reinforcement of social relations and solidarity on one hand, and the reduction of social abnormalities and pathologies on the other.
In this selection, some of the principles governing interpersonal verbal communication have been studied from the viewpoint of the Holy Qur'an. The beginning and ending of talk with salām (greeting), using beautiful words, not using indecent words, positivism in speech, audience-centeredness, and moderation in speech are among such principles. In the end, the writer has concluded that the Qur'anic principles, contrary to other schools which have focused their attention on treatment and correction of verbal communication, have a preemptive trend and have made the believers aware of the subtle aspects of verbal interpersonal communication and required them to practice these instructions to such an extent that indecent verbal communications would not only have no negative impact on them but, rather, to get them to show proper positive reactions.
