Abstract

How the descendants of man were reproduced is one of the fundamental, philosophical and theological issues that the Holy Qur'an has briefly addressed. In order to deal with this issue, the present research examines and analyzes the verses of the Qur'an and the hadiths using the principles and rules of interpretation, and also examines the narrations regarding this issue using the rules of hadith appreciation (fiqh al-adīth) and the viewpoints of Ayatollah Javadi Amoli. The most evident verse regarding this issue is the first verse of Sūrat al-Nisā, ﴾O mankind! Be wary of your Lord, who created you from a single soul, and created its mate from it, and from the two of them scattered numerous men and women…﴿. From the apparent meaning of the verse and the phrase minhumā (from them) it is implied that the reproduction of the human race refers to Adam and Eve (peace be upon them), and that all humans on earth are the fruits of their marriage. It goes without saying that other viewpoints have been put forward in response to this issue, which will be dealt with and evaluated in this article with the use of a library method.
