Despite clear similarities between the Qur’an and the Gospel in regard to the image of Jesus (A.S.), the differences reported in the two Scriptures are fundamental and essential, the most significant of which are the details common to both Books. The prophet Jesus (A.S.) in the Qur’an is a human being to whom God has made a Revelation, whereas the Jesus (A.S.) of the Gospel is one who has divine nature and origin and is referred to as “Son of God”.
The present research attempts to study the differences of the story of Jesus (A.S.) in the Qur’an with that of the Gospel, particularly those differences which have been neglected or not paid attention to. In this line, the etymology of the term nasara (Nazarene) and the highly important historical consequences of the difference of the Jesus (A.S.) stories in the Qur’an and the Gospel, as well as the etymology of the term enjil (Gospel) are studied. The writer has concluded that the information brought up in the Gospel is not consistent, let alone being convincing, even though it may be consistent with the renown historical facts. Accordingly, it is concluded that the most important aspects of the history of Jesus Christ (A.S.) has been tampered with.
On the other hand, the Qur’anic information has elucidated the historical facts regarding Jesus Christ (A.S.), which may not have been achieved through other sources. What is important here is that the more the Holy Scripture is studied, the more clearly its weak points will be revealed, whereas the more the Qur’an is examined the more evidently it will appear as undistorted.
