In this article, Al‘awwā studies the role of coherence and relatedness in the Qur’ān text, which is among the new approaches in linguistic studies of text, mainly theorized by Sperber and Wilson. Coherence examines the formal relations between various parts of the text and relatedness examines the coherent relations and tools. In other words, coherence is the relation between lingual units (statements and components of text) and the relatedness theory is a relation which would be defined not only on the basis of statements but also according to presuppositions, i.e. information units or thought. Al‘awwā examines these two theories by giving examples of verses from the Qur’ān text. Mentioning these theories does not mean confirming them in every aspect; rather, they provide the ground for more efficient recognition and perception of the Qur’ānic verses.
