After the victory of the Islamic revolution, the sub-course of Qur'anic and Ḥadīth Sciences – one of the five sub-courses of Theology and Islamic Ma‘ārif (Divine knowledge) – was, due to society's need for Qur'anic and ḥadīth sciences and ma‘ārif, widely welcomed by those interested in this field at universities, higher education and research institutes, as well as Hawza Ilmiya (religious study circles). Unfortunately, however, this sub-course has gradually lost its conformity with the society's demands in the past two decades because of a lack of serious alterations in its curriculum and educational texts and materials; and at present, it has been overshadowed by various weaknesses and deficiencies, the resolving of which requires sympathetic thinking and cooperation of the relevant experts and authorities. In this writing, first a general reference has been made to the deficiencies and weaknesses of this sub-course; and then, the deficiencies and weaknesses of interpretation (tafsīr) lesson, in particular, are reexamined. In the third part, interpretation texts and the syllabus of interpretation lesson are separately reviewed for each study level.
