In civilizational studies, fundamental concepts play a central role in explaining the dynamism and decline of societies. Adopting a Qur’anic perspective, the present study focuses on the concept of ni‘mah (divine blessing) as a key variable in civilizational processes. This research undertakes a comprehensive and multidimensional analysis of the concept of blessing in the Qur’anic verses in order to clarify how human attitudes toward divine blessings shape the destiny of civilizations. The main question addressed in this study is how material and spiritual divine blessings influence civilizational processes. The article is based on the hypothesis that the Holy Qur’an, through its precise explanation of the concept of blessing and the consequences of gratitude (shukr) or ingratitude (kufrān) toward it, presents a comprehensive model for civilizational guidance and development. Using a qualitative content analysis of Qur’anic verses, this study explores, categorizes, and analyzes Qur’anic themes related to blessings and the behavioral consequences of human responses to them. Through this approach, it elucidates the close relationship between this concept and the fate of societies and civilizations. The findings indicate that gratitude, proper utilization, and responsible preservation of blessings—serving as ethical and social foundations—contribute to the vitality and sustainability of civilizations, whereas ingratitude and denial of blessings create the conditions for decline and degeneration. By presenting an analytical framework, this research highlights the distinctive role of the concept of blessing in understanding the roots of the endurance or collapse of civilizations.
