Verse 104 of Sūrat al-Baqara prohibits the use of the word rā‘inā (have regard for us) and instead, recommends using unẓurnā (give us a little respite) when addressing the Prophet of Islam (S.A.W.). There are various interpretations of this prohibition among the interpreters. This research, using an analytical-critical method and based on the text of the verse, its related and unrelated evidences, has criticized the opinions mentioned about this prohibition and categorized them into the three main and related layers. The first layer deals with the encounter with the media sedition of the Jews and neutralizes their manipulative efforts. The second layer focuses on the educational dimension within the Muslim community, with the aim of correcting the perception and expectation of Muslims regarding the nature of the Prophet's (S.A.W.) mission and the relationship with him. The third layer establishes a fundamental and civilizational turning in the model of governance and the relationship between the Imam and the Ummah. In this verse, the historical and traditional "Shepherd-flock" model, based on practical control and the lack of maturity of the subordinate (ra’īyyat), is completely rejected and replaced by a new model based on "epistemic and insightful observance and supervision". In this new model, the goal is to train a mature, aware, and responsible community that chooses its path based on a deep understanding of the truths.
