The word zūr (i.e., slant, false, falsehood, lie), which appears five times in the Holy Qur'an (Sūrat al-Kahf, 17; Sūrat al-Ḥajj, 30; Sūrat al-Furqān, 4 and 72; Sūrat al-Mujādilah, 2) is considerably various and rich in meaning. This research is intended to analyze the structure and uncover the conceptual network of the word zūr within the Qur'anic contexts. The significance of this study lies in providing a deeper understanding of the Qur'an's semantic system and clarifying the interconnectedness of its key vocabulary. The research employs a descriptive-analytical method with a structuralist semantics approach and undertakes to delineate semantic network of the word by analyzing the linguistic, Qur'anic, and interpretative data. The key finding of the research is that the seemingly different meanings of zūr form a coherent semantic network centered around the core meaning of "deviation from the main path or standard." In this structure, tazāwarū as in Sūrat al-Kahf, (verse 17) represents a "physical deviation [slanting]," whereas in other verses (Sūrat al-Ḥajj, 30; Sūrat al-Furqān, 4 and 72; Sūrat al-Mujādilah, 2), zūr is used as "moral deviation" in the forms of lies, falsehood, and perjury. This research demonstrates that context, rather than the creator of meaning, activates one of the branches of this semantic network and this structural coherence reveals the Qur'an's high capacity to convey multifaceted concepts from a common root.
