The issue of the inimitability of the Revealed Scriptures prior to the Qur'an, especially the early Torah and the Gospel, is considered as one of the influential issues in the Qur'anic knowledge system and more accurate understanding of the verses relevant to the People of the Scripture. The theoreticians of the perspective of rejecting the inimitability of these books have based their arguments on evidences such as the superiority of the Qur'an in terms of expression, the absence of some features in the description of the prior books, the distinction between the manifest proofs and zubur (Books) in the Qur'an, the narration od similarity between the miracles and the capacity of the ethnic groups (aqwām), and the historical debate between Imam Riẓā (A.S.) and ra‘s al-jālūt (Exilarch). This research, using a critical-analytical method, evaluates these arguments. The analysis of these arguments shows that most of them are either based on confusing the concept of inimitability with absolute superiority, or are involved in inadvisable generalizability from specific cases to an inclusive theory. Furthermore, the underlying assumptions and the inference method in these arguments are coupled with conceptually inadequacies and one-sided interpretations. The inconsistency in analyzing the Qur'anic implications, ignoring the diversity of the aspects of inimitability, and relying on hadiths without considering their context, are among the weaknesses of these arguments. Relying on the Qur'anic and theological principles, the present research tries to demonstrate the insufficiency of the arguments of the reasons for the theory of negating the inimitability and pave the way for Muslims to reappraise their approach to the inimitability of the Revealed Scriptures prior to the Qur'an.
