The word "Zūr," used in five verses of the Holy Quran (al-Kahf 18:17; al-Hajj 22:30; al-Furqān 25:4, 72; al-Mujādilah 58:2), possesses notable semantic diversity and richness. This research aims to structurally analyze and uncover the conceptual network of the word "Zūr" within its Quranic contexts. The study's significance lies in providing a deeper understanding of the Quran's semantic system and clarifying the coherence among the semantic layers of its key terms.
Adopting a descriptive-analytical method with a structural semantics approach, this study maps the word's semantic network by analyzing lexical, Quranic, and exegetical data. The key finding is that the seemingly disparate meanings of "Zūr" form a coherent semantic network centered around the semantic core of "deviation from the original path or standard."
Within this structure, tazāwaru (al-Kahf 18:17) exemplifies "physical deviation," whereas in other verses, "zūr" denotes "moral deviation" in the forms of lies, falsehood, and false testimony. This research demonstrates that context does not create meaning but rather activates a specific branch of this semantic network, revealing the profound capacity of the Quranic language to convey multi-layered concepts from a common root.
